Rose Marie Kern considers herself a “Jill of all trades, Mistress of none”.  As she will tell anyone asking, “My profession was aviation, my avocation encompasses environmentally healthy sustainable living, and my passions are writing, reading, singing and gardening.”

Her sustainability website Solar Ranch  delivers information on everything from homesteading to practical living experiences.   Rose and her partner have remodeled four homes (He does the electrical, construction and plumbing, she handles the tape & texture, tile, & painting. As  a master gardener, she grows an abundance of vegetables and fruits, then preserves them through canning, or dehydration. In 1992 Rose began cooking in a solar oven.  She has been teaching classes and writing articles on the subject for agricultural extension offices and magazines. Her cookbook “The Solar Chef” won a national award and was the highest selling one of its kind for over a decade. 

Rose is a board member of SouthWest Writers.   Rose volunteers hundreds of hours a year helping to mentor  writers.  Currently she owns and manages RMK Publications.  There are a plethora of options for self-publication in today’s world, Rose assists writers to find and navigate the pathways to achieve their goals.
